Facebook Decals For Local business's

Facebook has announced they will be sending window storefront decals to local business's. They will be similar to the decals Yelp and CitySearch send out to their clients. As you can see, the decal is branded very distinctly with the Facebook colors and the "Like" imagery.

The purpose of these decals is to increase connections with your local business (Which is obvious). But the real question is, which company, (Facebook, Yelp, CitySearch and others) will win your valuable window space?

With over 400 million registered users on Facebook and the fact that anything on Yelp can be "Liked" on Facebook, I would put my money on Facebook!

The only question is, when do I get my decal!

Social Display Ad

Another advertiser is taking advantage of traditional advertising to promote their social media presence. In this example, Sun Chips is running a display advertisement on the homepage of Yahoo, to promote a cause/fundraiser. In the case of this ad, the entire ad is clicking to the Facebook Page for Sun Chips and for every new fan, Sun Chips is going to donate $1.00 to environmental education.

As of now, April 22, Sun Chips has 252,732 people who like the page! This is a great way to promote a cause. It's a better way to use Social to extend you traditional advertising!

On another note, Yahoo seems to really like the social display ads!

"Like" Button

Facebook has made another change. Not a major change, but instead of becoming a "Fan" of a specific fan page, you are now asked to "Like" a fan page. Above is the California State Fair Fan Page and shows the "Like" button. Here is Facebook's explanation (This link has more details):
Starting today people will be able to connect with your Page by clicking “Like” rather than “Become a Fan.” We hope this action will feel much more lightweight, and that it will increase the number of connections made across the site.
